I think for a runner game, this had some interesting design choices that sets it aside from others. I can appreciate the creativity and the thought you put into your level design! But here are some things that could be done to improve the gameplay experience:

  • Having some sort of arrows and interface that directs players as to which direction they should/could be going would be helpful. I felt myself getting lost or jumping off "leap of faith" sections, and it didn't feel very fun at times.
  • I get how it might be fun to have these "Gotchu" kind of mechanics, with the fake blocks that do the opposite of what they're supposed to. But when it leads to a complete restart to the whole game, it becomes less of a learning experience and more of a burden. Blocks like these could be more fun if you set up checkpoints throughout the level, or maybe they can switch colors or give some sort of indication that they're not what the appear to be when the player trips a hitbox or something.
  • Having some music or SFX to make this feel like more of a chase could amplify the experience. Maybe the music changes or gets faster when the red cube is closing in on you.

There's a lot that you can do to make this game really good, if you continue to work on it after the jam is done, but the mechanics are there at least. It's good work, for the short amount of time you had! :)
