ill check that out im mostly using RTG when testing must've missed something , thnx for reporting! two/three :)  questions tho:

1. After installing, do you powercycle, or reset with Ctrl-Amiga-Amiga?

2.Next time after this happens i'd like you to run C:agastat in a shell and look at [AGA] diagnostics ready, <date> <time> line 1.116 should write Oct 16 2026 21:41:57 (if it shows anything older thats the cause)

3.When you go to "Chipset" => init do you have any warnings about the kernel built for other Pi?

After installation I power off the Amiga for 10-20 seconds and it behaves this way. To fix I reboot and switch audio to HDMI, run a few games and switch back to Amiga audio and it works thereafter

No warning on init

Thanks! A few questions so we can find it:

What does "broken" look like on the RGB monitor: black, garbage, a frozen picture, wrong colors, flicker, or the normal Amiga screen instead of the game? A photo would help a lot.

After your fix (HDMI, a few games, back to Amiga audio), does it still work after you switch the Amiga off and on again, or only until the next power cycle?

After installing, did you set Chipset > Init back to Automatic before testing? The installer switches it off.

Next time it's broken, try two shortcuts instead of the full routine and tell me which one fixes it:

a) only Ctrl-Amiga-Amiga

b) switch Sound to HDMI and straight back to Amiga, without playing anything

While it's broken: start a game, quit it, then in a Shell run

C:agaboot CHECK >RAM:check.txt

C:agastat >RAM:stat.txt

and send me both files. Then do the same again once it works.

Does your Pi 3A+ have a heatsink or a fan?

Definitely not a heat issue. This only happens when I upgrade. Broken means black screen on HDMI (expected) and black on RGB with weird audio gibberish.  Like I said the way to fix it after the upgrade is make all audio go to HDMI, save settings and then reboot and make sure ham works on a few games and then switch back to Amiga audio and then it will work 💯 every time I use the Amiga for however long I use it (hours) until the next upgrade when I need to do the same process.  Not sure if you have a way to test on an Amiga 500 plus which is what I'm using. i will try the steps above when the next upgrade is released

upon upgrade AGAGAMES is OFF but you might be on to something here (and if its a bug id like to fix it) , so things might run actually on ECS HW until you enable the chipset anyways:

Thanks, for the description helps a lot, and I think I know what it is. Every AGA-Pistorm install switches "AGA for games" off on purpose, so you start from a known state. Until it's switched back on, WHDLoad games run on your A500+'s real ECS chipset. An AGA game can't work there, which gives you the black RGB picture and the garbage sound.

Next time you upgrade, please try this straight after the power cycle, before changing anything else:

Open Chipset → Init and pick Automatic.

Start a game HAM is fine too.

If that's enough on its own, we've found it. If it's still broken, open a Shell, type agaboot SANDBOX ? and send me what it prints, while it's still in the broken state.

Hmmmm I assumed it was on by default! After each upgrade I never run init. Even when I run uninstall. Is there a place where the settings are being saved or written elsewhere?

ill do this for the next release like this if you have it ON it'll stay on then you wont have to enable it which will be ok for ppl doin upgrade installs (but if you do Uninstall/install it will be OFF)

Does an installation over existing version require you to turn it back on because I haven't had to do that for the last 4 upgrades.

Yes atm it should require you to turn it on (if you use "automatic" option)

100% works for me without activating it after upgrades (aside from the process of me having to force HDMI on audio the first time).
