Pretty good question! I don't think I can give a definite answer, but imo I find I lot of it has to do with people getting too reliant on subscription services and apps for convenience sake.
As well as getting too comfortable with companies being really chummy with people, like making memes to be reliable and friendly while screwing over their own staff(cough cough Duolingo cough cough), and getting involved in activism for the sake of profit(Eg: rainbow logos only in June while donating to anti-queer organisations all year).
And of course there was whatever I put in the initial zine.
I think it really came down to many people in general being willing to make so many compromises and dismiss so many things, that by the time everything added up to be one big negative thing, it was already too late to turn back.
