Yeah, it's very mecha anime / Power Rangers. Unless they're going to be piloting EVAs or Gundams, it kind of doesn't fit with the game. The crew also loses that "ragtag bunch of misfits" vibe with having them all be matchy-matchy. Very few of the crew are into dressing appropriately, so they wouldn't really wear them anyway. With there being so much sexy-fun-times with the MC, it would be a huge pain getting in and out of a skintight latex/vinyl suit.
That being said, they could probably be used as space suits for when in the vacuum of space to do things on the exterior of the ship or something. If they get used, don't worry about redoing old renders, just come up with a believable reason for them in a future patch (their use just needs to make sense in-universe). The suits themselves aren't bad, though my one critique would be that the black parts kind of make them disappear (that might just be that the render is a dark scene though).
In Firefly, they didn't having matching outfits. Same with Star Wars.
The Funkelregen is much in the same vein as the Serenity and the Millennium Falcon.

I can see what you mean about the crew having very different backgrounds and characters, but there are no doubts about their affiliations, except for Natalie, Sara, and maybe some of Minerva's illusions; every main character is undoubtedly part of the League's military.
Also, it will never properly happen that you will see all of them wearing a uniform at the same time, in contrast to the picture above. Illabs need special uniforms, Veludran nobles have extra privileges, Minerva officially doesn't exist, etc...
I'm glad you like the suits on their own.
