Every life and situation is different, so take any opinion offered with a pinch of doubt. I understand your post from two perspectives:
- Should you do indie game dev as a job? I’d say: no. It starts being a job as soon as you treat it like one. For that you need basic funding (savings, investors) and the will/experience/skills to have a lot of ideas fast and explore on those.
Also, games (as any entertainment product) is a big gamble. Most people trying to live off that fail outside of bigger infrastructures. It is a weird thing to accept but success is the exception.
- Can you make money off of game dev? Yes. But not as a solo-game developer in your current state. Either find a job in a game studio (good luck right now :O) or offer what you can right now to other people. You got a degree in CS? Great! Offer scripting & programming as a service to others. Write good tools for others and sell them cheap here or (as soon as they add payment) through the Godot Asset Store. If you say 2$ a day is fine for you, that should be easily achievable by selling game templates, controllers, small, integrate-able systems etc.
In the mean time: do game jams if you can afford it. Good luck!
