Hi,
Dragging from the base view seems to just plonk a link down instead of the image no matter what modifier key I hold, and when I drag from the file explorer to embed an image in it doesn't line up fully with the grid.
I'm not sure what this step means, maybe that's the issue?:
Add set grid plugin to excalidraw (through the excalidraw interface)

Hi, sorry for the late answer;
To insert as image, first you click and hold on the tile in the base view, then hold shift when dropping in excalidraw.
The set grid plugin you access it by clicking on the top right icon of excalidraw, "obsidian tool panel", then you click the first icon "Install or update excalidraw script", and then you look for "set grid" and also "grid toggle" I found quite useful.
