I am having the same issue, and no reinstalling did not work. Looking at the game folder, I see a file called "Plantaç╞o.rpgmvp" This is by installing via the Itch app, on windows 10. If I go and download via my normal browser(Vivaldi) though, and extract it with Peazip, it gets the right filename.
So for anyone having this issue, make sure to do a normal download via browser and use an extration software that can deal with locales properly.
For the dev, I would suggest making sure your filenames only contain letters from the English version of the latin alphabet to avoid such issues for people using itch app or extraction software that can't deal with non-english letters.(I see other files with a similar issue, so even if someone were to just fix that singular file, similar issues would likely happen later as well)
