You can get it to work on Linux just tried it. Get Itch from Flathub. Install it there. Copy the path to the .exe and add it on steam as non Steam game. Choose the Proton version of your liking in the compatability tab. Works like that for me on CachyOS.

U can use lutris, very easy to use and very effective, much better then most other ways.

Just play with proton no need for native build
