I saw the thumbnail and was like… oh my…. how unfortunate to have lemon juice burst in your eye (with this Ren and Stimpy-like image). Lol. This is a neat game! Interesting colors. The dialogue is entertaining. Reminds me of playing a game called Time Crisis, in the arcade (that was neat, cause I forgot about how fun those arcade games can be). This reloading takes some getting used to with the keyboard and also while trying to swap left to right to reach enemies. Good idea for the “Scream Jam” theme. I came to your page to check out Starspire but just thought this thumbnail was too bizarre not to check out first.
Hey! Time Crisis was actually a heavy inspiration for me when designing the mechanics, so I'm glad it showed through. Most people will mention House of the Dead, they're not too far off, and honestly much more inline with the theme of the game. I thought about adding light gun capability to give a more authentic arcade experience (not like anyone really has one these days). I plan to come back to it someday once I actually have a light gun to test with. The in game graphics had some "Courage the Cowardly Dog" inspiration, but I can definitely see "Ren and Stimpy" on the cover art. This project was a lot of fun to work and placed top 5 in the jam! If you have access to the equipment, I have been looking into 3D printing a light gun. There are print files and a part list for the internals that are designed after the console Gun Cons out on the web. Probably the most affordable way to get one atm, just need the skill set to put it all together lol. I think they also sell premade ones, but they cost a bit more.
I have seen some of the “nice ones”, like 200-300 dollars (that’s the “one day”~ right there. lol). And no, I do not have the equipment or access… at this time. I have always wanted to get into 3D printing though. I would definitely be interested in seeing how it looks and works though if and after you have made it! ~would be very interesting to see. I’m assuming you have to solder some components, because snapping all those pieces together sounds too easy (like lego pieces).
