Honestly, thank you for typing this out because its pretty much how I thought when I freshly played this.
SPOILER obv ^^
I ADORED the pre-reveal story. I thought the twist was gonna lie in the "test" itself like many others probably did. When the medical stuff was over the story still held my attention, the domestic aspects were SO cute. Of course I was like, haha he's inviting them to his home they barely know each other am I gonna get murdered lol.
However, I am torn on how to present this to others, I still really enjoyed playing it and don't believe the twist entirely ruins the game. It makes you uncomfortable and forces you to put yourself in Angel's position especially knowing about their trauma. Afterall, that IS why its such a twist if you were expecting it to just be a game about the injections and maaayybe some romance. Instead, its about an unfortunate person who finds themselves in similar patterns. When you accept Lee's love, you literally accept the horrid implications in favor of what turns out to be a good life (as we saw at least) Rejecting it...well they probably just go back to that mundane and upsetting life.
I wish I could know homie's breakdown on what exactly they were going for when designing the morale of the story.
Now, I am not the best person to analyze the neurodivergent storytelling , but I definitely agree with what you said about diversion in expectations and stereotypes. This game did have good ideas with presenting loneliness, interest, and the medical system. All of which to say you absolutely understand at least what I (and another commentor hi) have a grudge for this game.
I really like this game after sitting on it for a few days. Even if I don't LOVE the twist and honestly prefer the Reject Ending. The fact it left enough impact to even comment/reply to you about it shows enough.
