You click on the limb in the inventory slot, then you place it in one of the sub spots. The sub limbs are your "backup" limbs that instantly replace your current limbs when they die, and you have to click on them to place inventory limbs. You can also put one limb on your inventory in every slot and the game will just replace the first limb that dies with it.
