Some of the items in the game do have a codex of sort where you can find out what is necessary to craft them, but you need to enter the codex area of the game & search for the item. Additionally, you have to have actually owned the item before it will allow you to look up that item, so it's still necessary to own the item before you'll know what you need to craft it.
