This game is amazing! A huge improvement on the typical pong-like. Being able to control the speed at which you hit the ball adds so much more strategy to the game. Of course I'm terrible at it, but still. I wish the power-ups were more direct (i.e. maybe the ability to hold the ball for up to 0.5 seconds or a dash). That would add a lot more strategy on when to use them.

One of the thoughts that I currently have to improve it that I didn't get time to try/do before the deadline, maybe it might be better if once you grab the assist, you have the choice of when to use it. This would probably improve the dynamic. it might give you more agency and make it feel a bit less like luck. Will update it after the jam :)
