A mash up where I took the Changelings from Star Trek, had them encounter a race whose violence was so endemic to them, that it infected the Changeling that first encountered them. This Changeling returned to their homeplanet and violated the first law, no changeling may kill another. The Changelings were thus infected with violence as a metaphysical concept, becoming Things, no longer part of the Great Link.
Thus began a war where the Changelings were victorious in destroying the violence infected invaders, but that victory changed their society permanently. One of the aliens crashed on Earth and remained frozen until 1982 (tying in the movie The Thing, a classic horror film). This Thing was destroyed, but not before it was able to create an SOS for others of its race. A second Thing was being transported by a group of Space Marshals on a very old bounty. This Thing escaped, destroyed the ship and fled to Earth, the source of the SOS. The sole survivor of that ship followed it to Earth (thus tying in the mini-series Something Is Out There).
Realizing the Things still existed, the Changelings sought to find them and continue their war against them. Thus was dispatched Kirby, who realized that the power of being cute to humans was a far more effective strategy than simple violence.
Finally, there is the long running conflict between the Meta Knights and eNeMeE, an evil galactic corporation specializing in the creation and sale of military grade Bio-Organic Weapons (tying in other Kirby titles and the TV series). Kirby and the Meta Knights often find themselves in conflict, or allies of convenience in dealing with the fallout of the monsters created by eNeMeE.
So, that is the story of what it is. Granted, it is taking Star Trek, a 1980’s horror movie, a 1980’s TV mini-series, several related video games, and an animated series and mashing them together in a… hopefully playable setting for connoisseurs of such concoctions.
