She needs to have more of a backbone. ‘Form a new community’ is very difficult and extreme, not unwarranted but about as hopeless to me as saying there’s nothing at all, perhaps more true to someone who has something to go back to. I feel the more apparent solution here is to complain about how shitty it feels to be dated for your race or to be ignored because in the story it seems like such a person doesn’t even hear that kind of thing often, like she doesn’t even think she’s doing anything bad in the first place.
