Changes to the Game Jam – your opinion matter!

Hi everyone!

The jam is currently scheduled to run until July 22nd, with voting ending on the 25th. Since I doubt many more developers will want to join at this stage, I’m wondering if we should move the dates up. I’m proposing two options:

Submission deadline: July 17th, Voting/End: July 18th OR Submission deadline: July 19th, Voting/End: July 21st.

If you’d prefer to stick to the original schedule, please let me know and leave your feedback!

A huge thank you to everyone participating—I honestly didn't think anyone would want to join in at all!

In my eyes, all the games are fantastic; even though it’s a small jam, the quality is outstanding!

I see that the voting is only one day. I would like at least 3-5 days of voting to ensure proper feedback.

My idea was actually that, based on the ratings, we would start improving our games and helping each other make them better.

Just came to say that the voting period should definitely be extended!
(need some time to play all the games)

If no satisfactory result is reached by the end of the deadline today, I will extend the deadline.

Can we also make people play the game before they rate. I have 3 rates here, but 2 browser plays in the same period.

If I could control it, I would put a stop to that sort of thing, but I think you know there's nothing I can do about it.

Can we please require feedback next time. Everyone rated without feedback. I had 5 rates and 2 plays, with all my plays before the jam ended. Only one feedback comment was given across games in the whole jam.

2 Plays on the first day, and no downloads.

I should have had at least 5 plays in this time

This is normal, as there are no files to download.

No major updates were made, but:

Hi there—first of all, I completely understand your frustration! I won't deny that a few things might have gone a bit sideways during this jam, and yes, I’ll definitely be making some adjustments for next time.

The idea regarding feedback is a good one, but I’d like to turn that point back to you: you only left a comment on a single game yourself (correct me if I’m wrong). So, demanding that people only rate games if they’ve also left feedback implies that you either didn't rate a single game yourself or didn't provide feedback on every game you played.

The overall number of ratings isn't great; 31 ratings across 11 games is a poor statistic given the number of participants. If more people had actually participated and rated, the issue you pointed out wouldn't have been quite as significant.

I also have experience with Itch.io analytics, and it’s pretty clear that they don't always align perfectly with actual browser-based plays.

I’m planning a second edition of the CCG for August, and I’d be delighted to welcome you all back as participants!
