Nobody is doing New England/East Canada representation like you two!! Always a treat to read about women being miserable in places I love so much.
I was instantly drawn in by the visual language of the novel. The use of collage and mixed media is stunning. I really appreciated that the blue/white/brown color palette of blueprints/paper/faded, older paper paired so well with Ys and Yamos sharing that same color palette, it set such a melancholy mood for the whole VN. I also spent a normal amount of time trying to figure out how/if the scorecard notation in the margins related to the dialogue it was paired with.
Ys and Yamos are very good, very meant to hurt each other. The tension between them is such a welll-writen depiction of the strain in fragile long-distance relationships. Starting inside Yamos's head when she is so immediately sympathetic and then seeing her naivety bleed out when the scope of the VN's perspective expands to Ys... incredible. Ys is so bitter, so hard to love with her fractured perspective, but a woman I feel for all the same. I can relate to her needing to capture a feeling in her history of scorecards, rather than Yamos's raw data.
Once again this is a kailot VN that I will be thinking about for a long time. It's time to get into baseball.
