I was born in Russia and raised in Quebec, but I live in Ontario now. French is my first language, and I've spent the last three years learning English from scratch. I actually speak the same way you write, so I don't really understand why people think you aren't a native speaker. In my experience, people usually assume I'm English—they've even trash-talked Quebecers right in front of me because they had no idea where I was actually from!

Hehe, I took french in HS similar to the MC in the game. If I had to pick one back up it would be the easiest as I tried and failed at learning to speak German because the duolingo owl is a filthy liar, and after spending 5 years on the app I still couldn't understand native speakers mostly because there are like 8 major accents, lol. I've always been told my pronunciation is excellent in French, I've just never traveled anywhere I'd need to use it.
