ok so first I often use blues scale but here's some tips i use
1. listen to your humming, i just literally follow my humming for songs and instruments n such
2. DRUMS ARE IMPORTANT FOR INTENSE SONGS, MOST SONGS NEED DRUMS [it should usually go kick, snare, kick, snare, often times I add hats that play along with the kick and snare]
