how does each chapter work ?

Ch. 2 starts off a few hours where Ch. 1 ended, then Ch. 3 starts off exactly 3 months after 2. If your question is in regard to player choices, all major player choices ends up an open question in terms of continuity. In terms of saves, just start a new game at the beginning of a chapter. NEVER load a save from a previous chapter.
