Hi dev of this project here, totally agree with you!
This release has been the first version that has been played outside the development circle and noticed a lot of these (seemingly obvious) quirks surfacing. A lot of it fell into the realm of polish (or between the cracks) and was pushed back (or simply forgotten) and thus didn't make it in-in time. Reflecting on it afterwards there's a lot of things that just didn't work out as expected, especially around the objects/placements communication as you pointed out. They definitely could use another itteration or two, by far the biggest usability & user-friendliness killer in my eyes.
So it's on the radar big time, still ongoing doubts as of the continuality of the project. Anyway thx for the great feedback and showing interest - means a lot!
