Really pretty game! It's short, but that's just let me wanting to play it over again and see if I can get all the notes this time.

I don't play platformers a lot, nor am I especially good at it, and I was using a cheap controller since I also never play with a controller. All those things in mind there were a few points where I found the control a little more sluggish than I would have liked - but it was only a few small sections and with so many other factors I'd have a hard time saying if its me or the game.

I'd love to see this concept expanded to a larger project, and would def pick it up if there were one! It really has the look and concept for a "real" game by a publisher, my first thought certainly wouldn't have been that it was a student game! <3

Edit: Oh and... I tried playing with a keyboard and the default binds were pretty funny - for anyone else looking its not just "designed for controller" like a lot of games, controller is mandatory. But its worth picking up the controller to play if you've got one around the house!

Hello there,

Thank you very much! Such a pleasant review to read :)

https://forms.gle/T5fdGqpW5wYAP2Md7

There is this short survey you can take to let us know a bit more in detail about your feedback. It will not take more than 4 to 5 minutes.

Regarding the controls we have already given the explanation, we mapped the actions with a French keyboard. Thus you only need to install a French keyboard on your and to switch to it.

You can find the listed controls down below on this page.
We can assure you that the game can be played with a keyboard and mouse! Some of us have insane speedrun times with this configuration :)

Stay tuned and take care!

(+1)

Ah that makes sense with the different keyboard! Maybe I'll try it that way next :) Thank you for the reply!

I also just wanted to say I found the game via a twitch streamer I know mentioning it, since that wasn't an option on the survey!

(+2)

Great game! Beautiful music, beautiful art.
I became happy because there were many motifs related to music.
It was quick, easy and fun to retry. I really want to play the full version!

Hello!

It is very nice of you to share your gameplay here :)

Too bad none of us truly speaks and understands Japanese.  This being said we are happy to watch your reactions, and your obtained a great score in the end, well played!

Stay tuned :)

(+2)

I've been playing videogames since 1985 and this might just be the most beautiful thing I've ever played. Seriously, there were a few instances when I smacked my gob at how arrestingly gorgeous the whole thing looked.

I need this to become a full fledged game that I can spend a few hundred hours on :3

The controls are pretty creative and slick, the platforming feels challenging but fair, the checkpointing is on point, and the art (visuals, animation and music) is to die for.

*standing ovation*

Hello there!

We are delighted to read such a positive review :)

Since we put all our might and efforts to create a memorable game, we are glad it paid off!

Thanks again and stay tuned for our next news and posts!

Would you think build for ios?

Hello!

If you wonder if we can provide an iOS build of SYMPHONIA then unfortunately we cannot.

The game has been developed for a PC running Windows and is the only version available.

Nonetheless we are analysing our possibilities for the upcoming months.

Stay tuned :)

(+2)

Beautiful, I loved it
Short but challenging and easy to understand
I want more

(+1)

Hello!

You have said it all ^^
Thank you!

Stay tuned on our social networks for our upcoming news :)

Cheers!

It is a beautiful game with many details,, it is a pleasure to go through the levels and see how everything is animated little by little from the bottom to the front. The mechanics of the game and playing your instrument is great and the music is extraordinary. Unfortunately I could not finish it, I had many problems with the controls, which resulted in dying and having to find the button operation again. Suddenly they didn't want to work, or they did just the opposite. I admire your game and I don't know if mentioning this problem will help you in any way.

I think the game is well thought out, although I still don't understandwhat are they for the robots  that only raise their arms.

I'm excited to know the progress with the game.  uwu

Hello there!

Thank you for your review. You know as long as a comment is thought through and detailed it always help :)
Thus can you be a bit more specific as to what happened with the controls in the end of your playthrough? (Where did it start happening and in which specific situation?
Herein below is a very short survey about SYMPHONIA, let us know!

https://forms.gle/T5fdGqpW5wYAP2Md7

The robots have been awakened by Philemon (they were asleep beforehand) and they are either waving to say "hi" or jumping on the spot as they are happy to see you and to be awake once again :)

We will keep you posted on our social networks, stay tuned!

Cheers!

This game looks absolutely stunning. But I have a problem. I noticed that in a reply to another comment, you said that it was developed with either a french keyboard and mouse, or an XBOX controller in mind. I use a laptop, and only have the QWERTY layout, while this game expects a AZERTY layout. I don't have any XBOX controllers either. I'm sad I cannot play this game properly. That being said, a keybinding option in the settings menu would be appreciated, but I understand that may not be possible. I'm not sure if I can install french keyboard inputs, I checked my settings and it only accepts english for some reason. Nevertheless, I think what I could play of this game is beautiful and well thought out.

Hello!

Thank you very much for your time. You would not have typed in this comment had not the game attracted you :)

I bet you have already followed such a step-by-step tutorial, but just in case you haven't:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14236/windows-language-packs

Unfortunately this game was developped when we were all students at ISART DIGITAL, and we cannot modify the uploaded build. Although we agree with you on a KeyBinding option in the menu, nothing can be done!

Cheers!

This was a beautiful game! It has an amazing feel and of course, I love the music.

The controls were challenging in the beginning, but they were easier and easier to use the more I continued on. It was a short, but amazing game and I've already recommended it to many different people. Truly a work of art, so hats off to you guys. :)

Hello!

Thank you very much, you make our day :)
It is crucial that SYMPHONIA gets as much attention as possible, the more feedback we receive, the better our choices and upcoming project will be!

Cheers for recommending our game!

(+2)

Amazing game, love the details and the layered sections that really give you a feeling of being so small, the music and mechanics was interesting to play through, I'd love to play more, but I also understand how much effort and work comes with making a game as beautiful as this!

Thanks for giving me the chance to experience this game, I can't wait to check out your other works :)

Hello there!

Wow, such a great comment! We are delighted you liked the game, it was indeed  quite tiresome to pay attention to all details but it was worth it :)

Cheers!

(+2)

Beautyful game!
Pretty fun mechanic  :D

Hello there!

Thank you very much, glad you liked it :)

(+4)

Magnifique !

(+2)

The game is exciting, fun and satisfying ... a game like this does not come around very often and wow! It has certainly delivered an experience that leaves such a positive impact on you.

The aesthetics are amazing and there are so many layers of depth going on in both the foreground and back ground, there are so many beautiful things to look at and there are even instruments woven into the scenery if you look hard enough.

The gameplay itself is really smooth, fluid and intuitive and you can play with ease, it has been well thought out and having more than one way to traverse obstacles is a really nice touch.

The soundtrack is also incredible both within the world of Symphonia and the solo pieces that Philemon plays , you really feel connected to everything within the game.

The only negative point is that it was too short ! However as the game gets some more love and attention it is bound to develop more, a really fantastic masterpiece.

Hello Nelly!

Thank you very much for playing our game, for sharing your gameplay and most of all for your amazing review!

You paid attention to nearly all details and layers, that is a first. And you had a perfect run, such a flawless performance if I dare say :)

The game does get love and attention, we are trying to share our piece of work as much as we can, and we are working on further possibilities for the team and SYMPHONIA.

Stay tuned, cheers!

(+2)

Hello, this game looks absolutely stunning! the artwork makes me drool and the atmosphere is magical. But i have a problem, I play using my PC, and i don't have a controller. and because of that the controls are really hard to figure out (i can't figure out what i should press to let him stand on the red matted wall ;-;). What can I do about this problem? or is there no way? :(

I REALLY want to play your game so it would be amazing if you could tell me if there's a way to play it on PC.  Thank you.

(1 edit) (+2)

Hello there!

Thank you for your comment!

Actually there are keyboard inputs :) This game was designed for the Nintendo Switch initially, that's why we highly recommend playing with a controller.

Nonetheless if you wish to play with your keyboard AND your mouse, here are the inputs. You will need your mouse to play!
I need to warn you, we are French, thus we developed the game with French keyboard inputs! (just install a French keyboard on your computer and switch inputs, it is simple)

Mouse Left button: Poke action (using you violin bow, can be performed in various directions: up / down / left / right pressing ZSQD respectively)
Z: up input for violin bow use
Q: run towards the left / violin bow use towards the left
S: down input for violin bow use
D: run towards the right / violin bow use towards the right
A: Play your violin (Y input on a Xbox Controller)
Space bar: jump (analogical, the longer you press, the higher you jump)
P: Pause Menu (presse again to exit menu)

Space bar in-menu: Confirm

Hi there. Is there any way I can keybind them to what I prefer? Thanks

(+3)

This really game me Rayman vibes and the music is lovely! Great work! 🙌🏻

(1 edit) (+1)

Hi!

Thank you so much! We are glad you enjoyed the game :D

Don't worry about your progression, you've still gone a long way in the game, well done!

(+3)

This was super AWESOME ! ! !

Hello there!

Thank you very much :)

That is a great score for a first run. Nice video, we are pleased to know you enjoyed SYMPHONIA!

Cheers!

(+3)

Great job. The platforming is on the easy side, but the art and sound design are top notch. Looking forward to the future works of this team!

(+1)

Hello!

Thank you, it means a lot!

We did our best to offer a platforming experience that would allow a larger amount of players to enjoy our game without too much frustration.
It there were to be a bigger version of SYMPHONIA, we could have more room with the platforming difficulty :)

Cheers!

Sadly not able to play with 32:9 monitor. Starts fullscreen, many menu items are not visible or overlap and unable to switch into windowed mode.

Hello!

Too bad it did not work out.

Have you tried shifting your display resolution to a more traditional 1920*1080 or 16:9 resolution?

Hello!

Have you downloaded our game in the end? What did you think about it?

I had free time, so I thought I'd give it a shot. It was amazing. I totaly lost track of time. Art is absolutely stunning, music is beautiful, movement is so fluid, and game mechanics are unique and interesting. There is no pressure in game, just simple fun and stunning visual journey. Depth of detail in this game is mind blowing, from sound when switching buttons on menu, to 3D art depth. For a dozen people to work such a short game and still give 100% just deserves every chance to succed in future. I'm really hoping and looking forward to a full game. Congratulations to your team and thank you for this amazing journey!

Hello there!

Such a positive and rewarding comment, thank you very much!

You just quoted many aspects and strengths we wished to implement in our game :)
It means we were not too far off our goals!

Cheers!

I know it's a graduation project, but I'd absolutely love to see a full game from this. The art is beautiful, and traversal feels great!

Hello there!

Thank you very much for your gameplay, we loved your video!
You were so close to the 200 collectibles on your first run :)

The team is currently transitioning from the graduation year, hence a lack of information concerning the future of the project at the moment.

Yet we had a great time developing SYMPHONIA and we are highly pleased to see amazing reviews like yours. We are analysing our options for the upcoming months.

You will be notified of any piece of news on our social networks anyway!

Cheers!

When is the Switch version coming out

(+1)

Hello!

Thank you for your comment. The Switch version has been developed as well since the project was tested by professionals on a Switch Devkit.

We are still looking into this matter, as to how to release a Switch version properly.

Stay tuned!

Hello there!
Being part of the dev team I wish to invite any SYMPHONIA player to answer our survey (link herein above) if you fancy giving us your feedback, it would greatly help us!

Cheers :)

The art is phenomenal!! I love the character design of the main character so much, and each animation is just amazing. The main game mechanic of using the bow in it's various ways is really innovative and immensely satisfying to play. The concepts you were able to introduce and iterate on in the short playtime are really impressive.

Such a sweet, beautiful game I'm glad I took the time to play!

Hello!

What a sweet comment! Thank you!

We are glad you had a great time, we tried to show as many concepts and ideas as we could during this sort game.

Cheers!

(+2)
The music is also great. The video is also amazing!
The action is the best!

Thank you so much! ^^

(+2)

Really astounded this was a student project, especially for the score and instrumentation and the phenomenal blended 3d background work. Good luck for a very bright future, hopefully in game dev!

Hello there!

Thank you very much!

We did our best to develop a game that would connect with our players and leave a mark. It is ambitious for a graduation project but we are glad it worked out in a way :)

Cheers!

(+2)

This. was. phenomenal. I absolutely loved every second of it. I had some issues with learning the controls but near the end I really felt like I had them figured out. Such a phenomenal game. I want more. So rad.

Hello!

We had a great time developing this game and creating our universe, we are pleased to see you enjoyed SYMPHONIA thoroughly :)

We really loved your video and reactions!

Stay tuned!

Will this work with a Dual Shock controller?

(2 edits)

Hello!

Yes it will! Be sure to plug in / connect your controller before launching the game.

Some players rely on the DS4 Windows program to emulate an Xbox 360 controller. It is up to you :)

Cheers!

(+1)

FYI, your download links download files with some weird names, e.g. what's called Symphonia_Windows.zip is named "06_Milestone_JURY_BuildPC_LABEL_GOLD_V02_SPEAR.zip" when I try to download it.

(+1)

Hello!

Yes we are well aware of this matter, we are looking into it as I type in my answer :)

(+2)

Masterpiece of a game the sound track is amazing the game plays so smooth with a controller. I had to back track because I missed some coins but it wasn't even a problem cause the game was so dang fun and just a superfluous amount of eye/ear candy treat yourself to this great game my play through with all coins here:

(+1)

Hello there!

We watched your whole video!
Congratulations for completing our game with a perfect score, you are a Legend ;)

It is nice of you to share your gameplay and to mention our survey in the beginning, it helps!

Stay tuned on our social networks for future news!

(+1)

Definitely excited for future news! You all did an amazing job :D thanks for making the game!

(+2)

Oh my god, what an amazing game! I haven't played anything like this for months.
The gameplay is incredible and simple. The mechanics of the character of jumping higher using the bow of the violin and being able to get caught / launched in the red cushions made the game very fun.
Level Design is very well done. Only in one moment of the gameplay did I end up not seeing a thorn because of the background.
The sound effects are incredible, but one of the death sounds is a little too high, since the first time I died I was really scared by the noise
The soundtrack is one of the most beautiful I have ever heard, especially the music that the character plays the first time he arrives on stage and the last one he plays before the credits.
* One more point: the shadow that guides us for a good part of the game, in my interpretation seems to be the music itself guiding us so that at the end of everything it can play again in that place. (I don't know if this part of the comment is very useful, but I decided to put)
{Sorry for errors in the message the google translator is not 100% accurate}

Hello!

I assume you might be Portuguese from your displayed name. Thank you very much for your long comment (and sent in English), we love having detailed feedback about our game!

Rest assured that our Game Designers and our Sound Designer will know about your review. All in-game sounds are highly interconnected and tuned, we did not mean to scare you in the first place :)

Very nice and poetic interpretation of the shadow by the way!

Cheers :)

(+2)

Loved the game, followed on Twitter, and took the survey. It was simply delightful! Love the way music is infused in the gameplay and level design. Reminds me a bit of Rayman's musical themed levels. Fleshing out the idea and adding more mechanics could really result in something beautiful, whimsical, and unique.

(+1)

Hello!

Cheers! It pleases us to see you mention Rayman :)
Rayman is indeed one of our main sources of inspiration for SYMPHONIA!

Thank you for your time filling in the survey.

Stay tuned!

(+2)

A nice, bite-sized game! The controls were very smoothe and it was easy and fun to get a hang of manouvering the environment. The music and visuals were very well crafted as well! As a point of improvement for the design I would argue that some of the interactable elements of the environment blended in a bit too well with the fore-/background, like the drums, the spikes or the coushins at some places. Luckily, the game is very forgiving, so it did not affect the experience too much, but in a longer/harsher game, it probably would have caused some frustration. All in all still a very well put together experience ^^

(+1)

Hello there!

We are glad you had a great time playing our game :)

Your piece of advice is duly taken into account, as a matter of fact we are already aware of this point! If more is to come for SYMPHONIA we will keep this in mind ;)

Stay tuned!

(+2)

this is a good game, i really enjoyed the short game, music was amazingly set together and the mechanics were smooth. unfortunate that it was so short, maybe more levels coming soon? there's only 1 thing that bugged me was that when the buildings in the background were collapsing the game started to lag a bit, for the rest of the ride the game was very smooth!

Hello!

The game is quite short indeed :) We did our best during these eight months of production to provide interesting content.

More levels coming? We will see :)
For the moment we are still working at making the game known to the largest amount of players.

Thank you for your comment and your review on the collapsing buildings, we will see to this point!

(+2)

Awesome game. I like the style, music, smooth and entertaining gameplay, and really nice "teaching through experience" tutorials for some elements. I have a lot to learn from this game.

Hello!

Your comment brings joy to the team, especially our Game Designers!
They did their very best to come up with clever and interesting ideas regarding the tutorial or the Level Design.

Stay tuned :)
