Because the Wretch is mechanically seen as a random Minion. The Wretch cannot be seen as Wretch to any truthful characters. To the Druid the Wretch is a Minion, to the Chancellor the Wretch is a Wretch.
I completely over looked that and if memory serves right the thing that threw me was thinking the Chancellor was the drunk and the jester was the Pooka who was corrupting a real lover
