I got the same thing in one of the side rooms after I destroyed a robot (which wasn't falling) the game just froze
I did try again after resting but the same thing happened
I think the problem that casing this to happen is opening the debug mode at the start of the game (I could be wrong but that's my best guess of what's happening)
