Oh. I would like to suggest changing that unless it is hinted at somewhere. It is an uncommon way of doing a date.
it's likely done this way because Y/M/D is a more 'universal' way of formatting a date as opposed to D/M/Y or M/D/Y. i think it would be nice if all 3 formats worked though!
