Hi! I stumbled across your game and was surprised because a few years ago I made a game based on the same Latter-day Kids Armor of God video. Some of the visuals and level design looked very familiar to me. My version has four levels, collectible coins, and mobile support.

I'd be interested to hear how you approached the project and whether the video creators provided any assets or resources for it.

Here's my version:

Hi! Thanks for reaching out. It's cool to see someone else was inspired by the same Armor of God video.

My goal was mainly to recreate the original video's game concept as closely as I could. I spent a lot of time trying to match the original sprites, which it became evident not all were 100% square and exactly replicatable.

Sometimes it was difficult to resist adding levels or extra gameplay features, but striving to keep things as they were in the video helped me limit my natural tendency for scope creep. I focused on embellishing the stuff the video didn't show, like what happens if you bump the back of an arrow, or allow the player to not constantly walk right. I must have watched the original hundreds of times by the time I was done.

Near the end of development I got in touch with the video's creator, who gave permission to post the project and shared some of the original music and sound assets.

I checked out your version too. It's fun to see the same video taken in a different direction. Thanks for sharing it!

Your missionary game looks cool! I need to try it with a controller, my thumbs don't cooperate with screen controls.

Thanks! My kids used to watch that video all the time and kept saying how much they wished they could actually play the game, so I figured, "Why not?" I reached out to the video's creators and they were kind enough to share the assets with me.

My kids still play it every Sunday during sacrament meeting, which always makes me laugh.

I really liked your armor system and how players can equip the different pieces of the Armor of God. I had considered doing something similar where players would collect coins and use them to purchase the different pieces of armor, but I ended up not having enough time.

The missionary game was mostly an inside joke between me and some friends, although it's slowly turning into a real project. It's still very much a work in progress.

Thanks again for reaching out and for checking out my games! My name is Rhett by the way. It's nice to meet you.
