I think the gameplay loop has a lot of promise! I fell into a flow state while playing. I really like the art style, especially the characters and food. The choice to have the royalty members in view is inspired and leads to some delicious consequences unfolding. I wish I had more time to read their dialogue boxes.
A couple of things confused me while playing. I wasn't sure how heavy the bread had to be. I love the addition of scales to add complexity, but it ultimately got me killed and ended a good run, which felt bad. I also think I instantly lost because I killed the king? He had a crown on his head and died from eating heavy bread - They don't make kings like they use to.
I would love to play a more polished version of this demo with clearer rules and richer crafted content. I would love some more moral decisions to ponder and some kind of light progression in my food testing station. e.g. a small mirror to show me the back of food without needing to rotate it. Or a special light that I can turn on to make maggots glow. These kind of workplace improvements could be in the post round shop. I did purchase a die which I assume is just for some sandbox style fun to be had while waiting for food to arrive.
