I am prepping to run this for a group of folks I don't yet know. Having just read through the rules for the first time and then your comment I see completely that the game is lacking any kind of real mechanic or direction. The beauty of TTRPGs is the open-endedness, but without *some kind* of system then it is exactly as you said - just guidelines. I think I would just slap Roll for Shoes on this and maybe even some Quiet Year lite map building and it will be a hella good time.
