castle you mean after manor quest or after you got all orbs ?
after manor quest, you need to use the headband and change back to turn it into an equipable item

Well, unfortunately enough, I think you encounter bug right there. Before going to the castle, you have to make sure if you turn into a maid, you will have the headband equiped in your equipment slot, or else this bug will happened.
yea, i figured that after joining the discord server, luckily i had a save right before going into the castle
