Censorship is dangerous, it begins within the communities, places, and such where they are already on thin ice, or are barely tolerated before spreading into more. NSFW also does not include only sexual things, it can also mean gore and violence, which I feel we have become desensitized to in fiction and can be important to devs wanting to make horror, action, and similar games realistic. Speaking of purely the sexual aspect of NSFW games, they should be dealt with caution & appropriate warnings, it is still an expression of self, experiences, or ideas and there exists NSFW games that serves a purpose other than getting you horny. I can't think of any Itch.Io games at the moment, but the first general media that comes to mind is Perfect Blue. It is an animated movie that directly shows a woman being raped, it is meant to disgust you and it serves a purpose that is not being porn, despite showing nudity and sex. Of course, there are games where they are made by horny people for horny people, which I personally am not objected to removing from Itch.Io as I'm sure there are better websites/communities that would accept it, but these are getting lumped into the same category as the "other" NSFW without any exception. The porn industry, not smut, is disgusting and takes advantage of so many people, but this is not the same as media with fictional sex. This also does not excuse the dev using AI, it's not a very serious topic that requires immediate attention when so much more significant things are happening in the world.
It's only creepy if it was made with teens as the target audience. No one is actively giving it to them if they look for it online and find something that they are attracted to.
Teens should be allowed to have the opportunity to avoid stuff like this on their own. Corporations should focus these censorship efforts on actual teenage /or child centered places on the Internet they used to have a lot of them but it either got shutdown or was taking over by adults.
NSFW content like books, art, photos, and recordings have been a thing for CENTURIES and have never been for people that time period considers underage they either find or stumble upon it on their own. And anything NSFW
(as in porn or graphic violence or injury)
that was intended for teenagers/children is something to take off of the Internet.
I admit there are monsters out there who make and do disgusting things and post them on the Internet with the disturbing thought that some poor kid is going to find it that and it's those monsters who should be condemned not adults who just want to have an outlet.
