I don't think they need permission as long as they aren't making money off of it or claiming it's associated with Glitch. Since they've identified it as a fan project, I think they're good :)
The seven main characters played another fan game based on episode 1 on Youtube. They loved it and have started the continuation fan game of episode 2, I believe
