I recently released a small tabletop dungeon crawler called Shuffle & Doom! built entirely around a standard deck of playing cards.
The main idea behind the project was creating something lightweight and replayable without requiring additional materials beyond a normal 54-card deck. The dungeon generation, enemies, traps, treasure, and boss encounters are all derived directly from the cards themselves.
During development I ended up simplifying the game quite a bit compared to earlier versions. A lot of the design process became figuring out which mechanics actually added meaningful strategy and which ones only added complexity.
The project was also heavily inspired by retro game manuals and older tabletop rulebooks, especially visually.
Features include:
- Procedurally generated dungeons
- Quick solo play sessions
- Trap and inventory management
- Standard deck only — no extra materials required
