Thanks so much for this! I fixed the problem with the gold. It wasn't actually a bug but bad design... One of your Major Excesses wasn't allowing you to perform the action (no complex spells or mechanisms) effectively softlocking you. To solve it you could have backtracked to a savepoint and used the excess menu to get rid of that excess, or used the other character to go through (if they don't have that excess too). Either way, it's never good if a system softlocks you and kills your progress so I've removed the block and also made it so that breaking out of the gold doesn't punish you with an excess.
