I read that version 2 has easier level design and altered boss patterns compared to the original, but its difficulty selection is still just how many continues the player has like what the NES cartridge did, which always bothered me about it even back then. How much trouble would it be to have the easier rooms & bosses be the easy or normal mode, while the original level design and bosses are a harder mode? I think that would be better (especially for replayability) than just changing how much health/attack power the player has.
