Constant radiation sickness?

Prefacing this by stating this is not a "why does my character keep coughing?" question. Well I mean it sort of is, but not in the usual way.

Have any of you other experienced VotV players been experiencing an issue where Kel somehow develops radiation sickness after returning from an outing, even though you never went near any radioactive locations? Unless I've been somehow wrong about how it works this whole time, the way I understand it is that you don't get the coughing + lowered max HP cancer/radiation sickness condition unless you get too close to a radiation source without proper protection. And unless they changed it, there should only be four of such locations on the map (not counting uranium crystals in the mine): the radioactive capsule, the radioactive waste barrels in the east river, the sunken car wreck, and the gravel pile near TR-1. And you have to be practically on top of these places to get any radiation from them- I checked with the geiger counter to see if maybe the radii were bigger than I realized, and no, they weren't. But yet somehow I keep randomly starting coughing despite steering clear of these places, use Heavy Meds to cure it, and then inevitably wind up with it again somehow and I can't figure out why.

So basically what I'm wondering is, did they add a new source to contract this condition from, is this a bug, or is there just some aspect of the coughing thing that I'm somehow not understanding? Because I'd like to report this issue, but I want to make sure it's not like a legitimate thing before I do so.

Smoking? It also causes coughing

I have not smoked a single time, so it's not that.

The fog eyes creature is radioactive as well now. It wouldn't surprise me if there is a lot more radiation around.
