So, Beasts of the Thorns.
If there is a FVN that manages to give exactly what I want in a story it would Beasts of the Thorns, it hits that specific itch of world building and exposition that makes furry content interesting to imagine.
Let's start with the plot: Hess is a human with atavism turning him into a headless creature forced out of human society, right form the start it shows it's originality, it could have been a isekai story or just story of a monster living in this world but by making the protagonist go from one side of society to another it allows so much contrast, Hess is extremely relatable because he comes from a "normal" life, so all the gaffes, the Freudian slips makes sense because Hess don't know the etiquette that the monsters are taught.
The main cast is pretty short of a VN with 4 main characters but each of them are connected with their own side characters that helps populate this world but also makes it feel ever more alive, for example it would be Darwin who is predominately connected to Ostrom but he still appears in other routes, he still is part of the plot of the game no matter the direction you choose. And another thing all characters share too that each route makes you see a new side of each them, some routes might shake your understanding of the character until you have all the pieces in place.
The VN don't have any QTE and so far there are choices that impact the narrative and there is also ones that just for world-building, characterization or exposition but it never feels like lore dumping or overstays it's welcome.
The art department is impressive, a VN mostly done by a single person but even the stock image background are given a touch that makes unique to this VN. As for the sprites Is lovely how expressive they even if they don't gesticulate that much it is very easy to gauge the mood of conversation and when they do gesticulate is very noticeable making the moment even more memorable.
The audio is one of the things I do have some criticism about it, a lot of time there will be no sound coming from the VN, not even some ambient noise and some sound bits like the pan that Darwin uses is too loud. But as far as songs go it has very fitting ones and the main theme made by Killerblood it's fantastic and when it plays in the story is superb.
Now about the routes could write paragraphs and paragraphs about each of the route characters, Chris, Amor and Ostrom. Each of them is deeply dear to me and I cannot wait to see how each of their stories flow.
Chris is what you consider the typical "Childhood best friend to lovers" trope and he does that trope so perfectly, he knows Hess more then anyone and their relationship is adorable to see.
Amor relationship with Hess is more direct, anyone can see his feelings and is not like he hides, he has a confidence in everything he does and feel like the most emotionally mature of the three.
Ostrom is a oddball, his and Hess relationship (if you can even call it that) is a very strange one but they are perfect foils to each other's ideals and is my favorite route because I really want to see how those two are going to coexist.
I think Wolfsregen is a master of world-building by weaving it with the story in every little thing that adds up into a more colorful and interesting world. This is such an underrated VN and if you have the means to read It can tell for sure that this will be an amazing read.
