Deborah Gail Stone was an 18-year-old Disneyland employee who died in a tragic workplace accident in 1974.
She was working as a hostess at the “America Sings” attraction in Disneyland. The ride used a rotating theater system where walls and seating sections moved between scenes.
On July 8, 1974, during a transition between show segments, Stone was caught in a gap between a moving wall and a stationary wall. She was crushed to death before other staff could stop the ride.
Some key context:
- The attraction had only been open a short time when the accident happened.
- Guests reportedly heard her screams but initially thought they were part of the show.
- Afterward, Disney temporarily closed the ride and added safety improvements, like warning lights and breakaway walls.
Her death remains one of the most well-known accidents in Disneyland’s history, and it led to stricter safety measures on rides with moving components.
