The puzzles were one of the first things that hooked me—they’re just straight-up fun. It keeps that classic Lufia style but adds some fresh ideas, and a lot of them are actually pretty challenging. There were multiple times I had to stop and really think, but solving them always felt rewarding. Easily one of the best parts of the game.

Combat is very much that old-school 90’s JRPG setup—fight, magic, item, defend. Nothing groundbreaking, but it’s solid and consistent the whole way through.

Where the game really stands out though is the story. It’s honestly phenomenal for a fan-made game. It doesn’t just take inspiration from the series—it genuinely feels like a continuation of it. Playing as a descendant of Maxim gives everything more weight, and as the game goes on, you start picking up more and more connections to past events. It’s handled in a way that feels natural and never forced. The story only gets better as the game goes on.

The writing really helps sell it too. The dialogue feels natural and it balances serious moments with humor really well. There are also a lot of character bonding and emotional moments that make the party feel like a real group, which made me care a lot more about the story overall.

It’s also a great length—I got well over 25 hours out of it, which felt like a full experience.

The only real issue for me was the lack of exploration later on. You can’t really go back and revisit earlier areas, and I kept expecting something like that to open up but it never did. That felt like a missed opportunity.

Between the story and the puzzles, this is a MUST-PLAY if you’re a Lufia fan. It genuinely feels like a true continuation of the series.
