It's a completely valid reason to stick with AI over comminisioning an artist if you're just doing it solo, making them look consistant is still a job in of itself, I didn't notice any errors so I'd say you did a pretty good job.
As for balancing, I understand this is still in its early stages, but one idea could be to limit how many elements you can use to forge attacks with until the player has reached a certain milestone (special quest/player level).
I have a theory that the '22122' bug may be a result of one of my 'stomp' attacks generating at a negative value from 'damage deviation'. I don't really understand anything about it asside from that, but I will test it to see if that's the cause.
