This is probably nothing to do with players being "Bi-phobic". I think this is how bad the dev try to advertise his own VN. This is the information that i gather so far, you can correct me if i'm wrong.
Caro started crowdfunding this VN six years ago, the game has been tagged as "Gay" on Itch. When a woman asked "Can women play Tavern of Spears, too?" Caro’s response was: "Of course. Actually, most characters in the tavern are bisexual, because I am bisexual myself."
People are shocked by this. People who calling out Caro said: Nobody forbid any woman for playing this VN. Despite two characters already hinted being Bi, people want answers and clarification as to why almost every characters who had shown zero romantic interest in women for six years were suddenly being "re-labeled" as bisexual just to cater to a new female demographic.
Instead of addressing this concern about the narrative consistency, Caro immediately distorted the whole player's reaction being "biphobia". People become angry to Caro because he blocked every users who asked about his clarification.
The situation truly exploded when that same female fan followed up with a taunt: "I’m about to bring my army of sisters here to snatch away all your husbands". Even worse that it's attract many woman shouting homophobic remark to his players.
In fact, no player has ever reported Caro or his game to the government. This "threat" existed only in a single vent post with fewer than 10 likes on Baidu Tieba. Within 24 hours, his own fans contacted the poster to have it removed to protect Caro from unwanted scrutiny. Most fans have been actively trying to lower the heat to keep Caro and his game safe.
