I'm so impressed with this game.
We need more tragic narratives, and this game is a good example of how to bring that into interactive media.
This game explores themes of memory, grief, and regret in a very interesting way. The protagonist’s downward journey, gradually revealing her goal and her reluctance to confront the memories that surface at the checkpoints, creates a narrative that helps build a tragic and melancholic atmosphere.
All we have is a tool that stops us from falling, but not from descending—in fact, all we can do is descend.
Excellent use of the pursuing monster as well. It’s rare to see an antagonist in a game that is more capable than we are; it moves through the environment much better, making it clear that we are the intruder and it is the resident. It’s absolutely despairing when we cross paths with this creature.
Someone said the game lacks story and horror. I couldn’t disagree more.
