Wow! Never knew about Count Zero! I kinda hated Neuromancer and never touched anything he wrote, except the weird Wild Palms Reader he contributed to.
Haha we disagree on Neuromancer but agree on Wild Palms - I'll take it! Neuromancer is a little obscure and dense and hard to read, he was still kind of a clunky writer at that point, so I get why it may not be everyone's cup of tea. He's more fully formed by Pattern Recognition, but even then he's an acquired taste and I could see why it might be annoying to some. He was actually hugely influenced by Burroughs, to the point where he had to completely negate his style to avoid slavishly imitating him. I think of his writing sometimes as "Burroughs by other means"
