Are AI sprites and AI-assisted development valid in this game jam?

As participants, we’re exploring different ways to create meaningful experiences within a limited timeframe. With the growing availability of AI tools for generating sprites, code, and other assets, we wanted to open a discussion about their role in this jam.

On one hand, AI can be seen as a tool—similar to game engines, asset libraries, or procedural generation—that helps developers execute ideas more efficiently, especially under tight deadlines. It can lower technical barriers and allow more focus on design, storytelling, and mechanics.

On the other hand, some may feel that relying on AI-generated content could reduce the emphasis on individual craftsmanship, originality, or artistic effort, which are often central to the spirit of game jams.

So we’d like to clarify:

  • Are AI-generated sprites allowed?
  • Is AI-assisted coding or design acceptable?
  • If so, are there any limitations or disclosure requirements?

We’re not just looking for a yes/no answer, but also for guidance on what aligns best with the goals and values of this jam.

Thanks in advance!

I encourage the use of AI. I have yet to see anything presentable when it comes to pixel art and AI though, but if you can do it, then go for it!
