so how does one shot works exactly? is the setup still the same as the normal dead hand setup? as in players will have to pick suit that they take damage from? and the modifiers are for the green-yellow-red zones?

could you throw an example scenario on how that works? say player wishes to get rid of the lock that locks the door by force

to they then roll 2d6 and then add strength modifers? What is considered a success? when it isnt their suit? and do dead hand exists?

Hey! Good question!
One shots operate exactly the same as the base game, just with a narrative frame. DM will determine when a roll is to be made and the players are trying to survive until the end of the deck.

The modifiers will work within that red, yellow, green outline.
The player's health is then what marks success. For instance,  if it's yellow, they can defer the blow to the dead hand, which might manifest narratively as the monster seeing the broken lock. Or, if it is red and the card dealt does damage, then you can roleplay it as they broke the lock, but cut their hand. Alternatively, if it is red and they draw cards from the Dead Hand that end up ending a player, you can roleplay that as the monster having been on the other side.

The goal is for death to be around the corner at all times, so that tension never stops.
