I was thinking about something visual, like short animations (two or three frame) to display what's happening behind the game grid: the protagonist stealing, eating, doing some facial expression or being ill, healthy, hungry or just a simple really really ugly medieval thief :-P 
Something else could be giving the player a sense of progress, like every week a screen showing where you at ("Oh, I made itso far, let's go")

Those are great suggestions, thank you! I am currently adding a mini quest system for some "post jam polish", adding a weekly report sounds feasible :D Adding to my to-do list
