Since I don't have a centralized Discord or anything, I figured I would share a few things here that I've learned or have been shared with me in the gamejams I've participated in. I might come back in to update this at points.

  1. BACK UP YOUR WORK. Seriously. You don't want to be in the situation where your hard drive dies and kills everything you worked on. It can and does happen. Having an external drive or syncthing to automatically keep things on different devices are good approaches.
  2. Eat and sleep and take care of your basic needs. Your ability to work will rapidly go down if you don't do these things. It's not a marathon and I'm not expecting everyone to submit some grand epic. Take your time, go at your own pace.
  3. If you're writing something with a script, consider having it all written down and organised separately in whatever writing software you choose. I recommend Obsidian, which can also be used in conjunction with Syncthing to go between desktop/phone/laptop or whatever you like.
  4. If you're hurting for inspiration, try not to worry too much. You might need to do a little research or look at some body of work for inspiration, or you might simply need to take a break.
  5. Kill the perfectionist in you. If you succumb to it, you'll burn energy driving yourself in circles. There are a million little things someone could say to get better at writing or creating in any medium, but I truly do think there is no substitute for simply making the damn thing and having it done.
  6. Kill the cop in your head. Develop a vomit fetish.

If anyone has any specific questions about the jam or wants advice they can ask here. I can't guarantee I'll answer because I'm very lazy.

Good luck everyone.
