Even if I've been mostly a The Expanse RPG GM for the past two years, I really like your articles about OSR and I find it useful to be reminded of such basic tools as darkness. It reminds me of my first AD&D games back in the '80s.
And that's not that much different from those basic commodities we take for granted in a world where we can breath open air. Vacuum, cold, exposure, air, water. That many hazards to play with. I'll transpose the concept of light bubble into water/air bubble as the distance one may go in space before those are expended.
