just a tip for anyone that is crashing on the Larry/Sherry/Mercenary battle in the Ashen Forest, I found that the fix for me was to make sure I had no pokemon that were evolving after any of the battles!
I think it interrupts the cutscenes so either evolve them through wild battles before, or swap with other mons that won't evolve :)
loving the game so far though, its such an elevated new experience of one of my faves!
