The $8 option is completely optional and only exists for people who want to support the project or get the update a month early. The game itself is free.

As for the “it’s all AI anyway” comment, that’s the usual drive-by insult people throw around when they haven’t actually played it.
Most of the art is heavily AI-assisted, yes. I’ve never pretended otherwise. I still spend a lot of time editing in photoshop, redrawing and preparing it, and I’d happily switch to a full artist if I could find one who actually delivers work instead of disappearing after taking my money and running. This game has already gone through four artists.
The writing isn’t AI. The programming isn’t AI either. Those are mine.
But judging by the tone of your comment, I don’t think you were hoping to provide feedback. You just wanted to stir drama after downloading a free game.
