I get what you mean and i did fix some times where it was too obvious, (and not in the right moment) because i thought so too as well, but the initial trigger is meant to be very obvious! (You will see why in future updates)
And well... for him being built like a gacha life character, idk what that means actually... could you explain it?
And hey, matcha did exist before it became a trend (altought, maybe i mentioned him saying matcha latte as his favorite? If so, that may be an oversight)
